The Home Guards and Civil Defense organization conducted Emergency rescue, stretcher drill and other emergency response methods on Saturday, February 9, 2013 as part of ongoing "Saad Samvad" programme at Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Mairmar.
Shri John Aguair Honorary Company Commander earlier explained the organization and the aim behind holding such a demonstration and training session. He said the aim of the Civil Defence is to impart training to save lives. He said there is also a proposal to set up Civil Defence Cadet Corps on the lines of National Cadet Corps (NCC) to spread the Civil Defence mantra all over the country through the students. He said Sometimes rescue materials are not available to the rescue team at site in emergency situations. There are various other methods, which could be useful for rescue. Such methods are known as, “Emergency Methods of Rescue”. The adequate methods of rescue is to be determined depending upon the nature of the casualty, the nature of the
injuries and the position in which the casualty is found.
Platoon Commanders Shri Uday Kurtarkar and Shri Suresh Patekar along with Civil Defence Warden Shri Vijay Surlakar and volunteers Shri Uday Kuri, Shri Pralhad Mayekar and Sergeant Shri Anand Naik, Home Guard Shri Laximan Harmalkar demonstrated emergency firefighters crawl, and emergency casualty handling such as Fore and aft method, one rescuer human crutch, two rescuer human crutch, toe drag, Blanket lift, pick a back, pick a back reverse, cradle method, stretcher drill and blanketing.
The students evinced keen interest and participated in the practical session of the techniques.
Principal of the College Dr. Yasmin Modassir thanked the Director General of Police, Hon. Company Commander Shri Aguiar and the officers of the the Home Guard organization for conducting such a useful programme for the students of the college.
Vice Principal Dr. Rammurthi, Prof (Dr.) Ms. Wendy Manuel, and Prof. Vinod Kankonkar were also present on the occasion.
