HG & CD CONDUCT COURSE IN RESCUE METHODS AT NCC CAMP



The Officers and staff of Goa Home Guards and Civil Defence Organization conducted courses in Emergency Rescue Methods of evacuating casualties with the help of demonstration which included Human Crutch, double human crutch, cradle method, Pick a back, pick a back reverse, 2 handed seat, 3 handed seat, 4 handed seat and others at the NCC Annual Training Camp organized by 1 Goa Naval Unit NCC at St. Anthony;s High School, Duler, Mapusa Goa on October 23, 2011.

Honorary Company Commander Home Guards Shri John Aguiar stressed on the basics of as to what practically should be done by public at the time of disasters. He emphasized on the need to become part of solution than becoming part of problem. Introducing the organization to students Shri Aguiar said that in December, 1946, Home guards were raised in Bombay to assist the Police in controlling Civil Disturbances and communal riots. Subsequently, this concept of a voluntary citizen's force as auxiliary to the Police for maintenance of law & order and for meeting emergencies like floods, fires, famines, etc. was adopted by several other States. In the wake of Chinese Aggression in 1962, the Centre advised the states and Union Territories to merge their existing voluntary Organizations into one all -India force known as "Home Guards" which would be voluntary both in concept and character. The Home Guards Organisation was started in Goa in the year, 1967 and the same was functioning under Goa Police Department.
He urged the every citizens specially the students above 18 years of age to come forward and join the Civil Defence organistion and serve the nation.
JSO CD/DCHG Shri Nandkishore Raikar also addressed the students on the occasion.
The course was conducted by Instructors Platoon Commanders Shri Suresh Patekar and Shri Uday Kurtarkar, Sergeant Shri Anand Naik, Home Guards Shri Laximan Harmalkar and Shri Narayan Pagi with the active assistance of Civil Defence Volunteers Shri Uday Kuri and Shri Pralhad Mayekar.
